MIKE SHOLARS WAS AWARDED THE ENFL COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD

By: Ahmed Zackeria

Q: What made you consider coaching in Egypt?

A: As an African American the opportunity to return to the land of my ancestors and share my life’s passion was something I could not miss.

Q: What was your first impression of the MSA University Tigers squad?

A: Enthusiastic! 30 or more greeted my airplane in Cairo last December at 1:AM! This was impressive and humbling.

Q: How did the team respond to your unorthodox coaching style?

A: Great Question. Their response was the key to our success… They Trusted Me, gave me the respect and dedication I needed to teach my “True Unity=True Empowerment” philosophy, and way of playing. By mid-season we simply referred to it as “TIGER BALL”

Q: What do you think of the level of football present in Egypt and how does it compare to other countries?

A: The level of football is at the German GFL 3 level, with several players having GFL 1 talent

Q: How do you describe the maturation of the Tigers and where do you see them in the future?

A: We were a dropped pass in the endzone away from the Egyptian Bowl, and I would throw the ball to that receiver again because he will catch it 9 of 10 times. Thus next year’s goal can only be one thing… to FINISH!

Q: What does the Coach of the year award represent to you?

A: We all wish to be considered the best at our profession, no matter what your profession is. This Coach of The Year Award (considering all the nominees had German GFL coaching experience) is a prestigious award that represents the ultimate team award, as the teams improvement is a vital measuring stick.
